Liebermann Papers
review 1: Frank Tallis' Max Liebermann/Vienna murder mystery series, set in the early 20th century, are part who-done-it, part cultural excursion. Great reads for immersion into another time and culture. Vienna Twilight is his fifth book in what is a six-book series (so far). It may also be his best page-turner. Quick moving, entertaining and packed thought-provoking details and, of course, inventively murdered corpses. Great fun.
review 2: I can't say enough how much I enjoy this series. Its such a smart historical mystery series, with wonderfully rich settings, great characters, and great writing. I love how, with little description, Mr. Tallis manages to convey so much about his characters. I also very much enjoy the glimpses of early forensic investigation we get
... morethrough Professor Mathias and Amelia. This book deviated a little from the usual plot line in that it did not involve any pre-WWII anti-semitic themes which have been typical in the series up until now. There was just a hint, however, of the beginning of the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a theme Mr. Tallis tends to dance around but never really address directly. All in all, a great read. And, as usual, I LOVE all the Viennese pastries!! less
