review 1: I'd give this 4 and a half stars if I could, mainly cause I kinda felt let down a little by Wilson in this one. When I first heard that Wilson was writing the story, I was beyond excited because she usually nails character perspectives and development. However, in this case, it felt like she didn't stay true to Kamala Khan. There were a couple of lines and scenes that didn't feel very right with Kamala and who she is. But you're probably not gonna catch on to that unless you've read some of her work beforehand.Regardless of that, this is probably the most important comic ever released because the main portrayal of what a superhero is has changed. I love this comic, and the ending left me wanting more of it. I can't wait to see more of Ms. Kamala Khan.
review 2:
... more When you have a character taking over for their hero you get me worried the character will be a Mary Sue. That's not what happened in Ms. Marvel.I won't recap the book, I'll just say it's a good character who felt real and relatable, even if we're from different words (perhaps literally). It's a funny book at times, with heartfelt moments -- namely with her family, with whom she has a good relationship.Kamala is at an age when she's finding herself -- including the realization that she doesn't fit in with the party-going popular kids. Then she gets superpowers and is trying to find out who to be in that regard as well. Will she be like her hero Ms. Marvel with the "classic, politically incorrect costume and kick butt in giant wedge heels" so she is Kamala AS Ms. Marvel, or will she take up the mantle as Kamala Khan, and take it her own way?Recommend as a coming of age story as well as a superhero origin story although in this volume you don't really find out HOW Kamala got her powers (or more aptly, what gave her powers). Also recommend for those who appreciate good, regular use of "embiggen," which is a perfectly cromulent word. less
