Parasol Protectorate
review 1: Blameless is the third book in the Parasol Protectorate series. It revolves around Alexia Tarabotti, a soulless woman in an alternate Victorian England where supernatural creatures have been accepted by society. Alexia's husband is an alpha werewolf, and she is an adviser to the Queen. Alexia is a fun, feisty, intelligent and gutsy woman who is not afraid to speak her mind. The plot of this story centers upon Alexia proving that she is blameless. I won't say what she is being accused of, as it is a spoiler for those who haven't read the first two novels in the series, but Alexia travels to Europe trying to prove her innocence. As always, there is lots of action, humor, and witty dialogue along the way.
review 2: It's rare for me to be so conflicted about a book
... more. Ok, maybe it's not... but I can pretend. In this book there seems to be no middle ground for me. I loved parts and I hated parts. In the end there were a lot of new characters that I just didn't care about. So 2 stars. What I loved:The intelligence and wit of the heroine. Also the loyalty she inspires in others. The social structure of the immortal set. The hives, packs, rules, English customs, etc.The heartbreaking feeling I had at the beginning of the book because of her abandonment by almost everyone. The mystery surrounding ancient history of the immortals. What I hated:The unbelievable amount of break neck action and constant danger she is in.The obvious knowledge people are out right keeping from the heroine, and she puts up with it.The amount of times the previous 2 things happen during the story. The quick reconciliation with her husband at the end. This one really sent me over the edge. In a very ugly way. What I didn't care about:Almost all of the new characters that are introduced with the exception of 1. And really I didn't care about most of the book in the end, because she really didn't find anything out that she wouldn't have found out had she just stayed in London. It almost made me angry that I slogged through this and we're basically back to square one.Her forgiving her husband for what he did, which resulted in homelessness, unemployment, and abandonment, in 5 minutes really pissed me off. Nothing about her character would indicate that he could so easily be forgiven. I don't care how moon-eyed he looked at her. NO WAY. Then she jumps in the sack with him? Um WHAT?!?!?!??! !@#$%^&!@#$%^&!@#$%^&Good for the author, but bad for me: I am vested enough in the characters to continue on in the series. *sigh* At least these books are well written and you can fly right through them. Pure fluff. less

Alexia is off to Italy! With an old friend and a friend made in the previous book, Alexia decides to flee England to find answers to her predicament. This is the first in the series that I wavered between a 3 and a 4. Part of the joy of this series is Alexia and Conall's interactions and they are separated for the vast majority of the story. On the other hand, it allowed the fleshing out of some secondary characters to great benefit. I decided to go with four because a lot of interesting things happen, Alexia is still Alexia, and the settings are drawn that I can easily imagine the experience.A stronger B plotline, relating to the A plotline, dovetails nicely and sets up future conflict in a way that is wholly consistent with the world our characters inhabit. I appreciated learning more about the politics of the various factions, and while the world-building continued in its complexity, I am not seeing it coming together in a cohesive whole just yet.Time to give this series a bit of a break as I've read the first three within a week. But at least that gives me something to look forward to. I am, however, hoping that the next book takes place back in London.

Me deja con cierta curiosidad, para leer el cuarto. Está entretenido.
