review 1: Wow, I mean wow... I'm pretty impressed with with this read and in turn, garth stein. I don't think I have the language for how connected I was with Evan, his narrative, and the lies one learns to spin into the mythology of truth. There is always a mirror to reflect what we see as ourselves, our side of recollection which only exists (fully realized) in our minds and hearts. We filter every experience past and present through this lens, no matter how skewed or off-center or stained the glass; no matter how fractured our skin, skull, sense of self. Stein captured the journey of boy to man to father to new truths of awareness realized, purpose given meaning through an act of will and surrender. This is achingly beautiful journey. I'm still wrapping my head around the soul at... more the center of this book. Nicely done, Mr. Stein...nicely done.
review 2: Can't really explain why I gave this book five stars! I just really liked the book. It is about a young manhaving epilepsy since age 12 and how he got it and how he feels about it and the way it has affected hislife. The surprising things that happen during the story affect his ability to keep his illness a secret. Howhe changes and grows and becomes more comfortable with himself and learns so much about himselfduring the process makes for compelling reading. Very well written. less

I enjoyed this book, though not as much as The Art of Racing in the Rain.

Enjoyable. I like "The Art Of Racing In The Rain" better, though.
