review 1: If you struggle with social media for your brand/company or don't think it matters much you SHOULD read this book. Vaynerchuk's arguments for how you should but aren't using social media are convincing and quite rallying. That said, the writing style was occasionally too self referential and brand dropping for my tastes, so it wasn't a book I loved though one still worthy of reading. Easy flowing read that picks up momentum in latter half. My mindUPDATE a week later: This has stayed on my mind since I finished it, and has clearly influenced my interactions, so raising it a star.
review 2: I wholeheartedly agree with the message of this book, that social "media" is really an excellent tool for building long term relationships with customers. It's a platform fo
... morer customer advocacy, not another form of paid media in which to blast your customers with call to actions and promos. Those who know me know I haven't historically been very keen on social media, viewed mostly from the lens of customer acquisition, which it delivers poorly at. Gary has convinced me that it is a worthwhile endeavor for building a relationship with customers and prospective customers, which ultimately more important than the quick fix of initial customer acquisition. It also plays on brand building, even if it is your "personal brand". So oddly enough Jay-Z had a role in changing my attitude on social media as well (I also recommend the book "Empire State of Mind").Gary entertains and delivers good advice and compelling arguments with passion and bravado. However towards the end of the book I honestly started to loose interest as I felt like the points were already well driven home by that time. Truth be told this is one of the few books I did not quite finish as I felt like I was just checking a box to see it to the end. So many other books I want to read! less
