review 1: Myrtle goes undercover at the middle school to help catch a thief. Sunny has been acting strangely and hanging out with a girl that seems to be bad news. But when Brody accused Sunny of being the thief, Myrtle goes into high gear and sets a trap.I like the story like, but the country bumpkin language drove me nuts. It made the characters sound stupid and I didn't like it. The first one had a few phrases that were that way, but this one kind of over did it some. I have one more to read and I hope that one isn't going to be the same way.
review 2: I think I downloaded this book for free - but I would have tried it out anyhow because the title is catchy, and the main character, Myrtle Crumb goes undercover as a lunch lady at a middle school - and that's my jo... moreb. There are funny parts to the book - for example when Myrtle goes on about the need to create a mattress with a trench cut out for your boobs to hand down in - I did giggle. However, the story over all is just so-so. There are thefts occurring at her granddaughter's middle school, so Myrtle goes undercover by working in the school's kitchen and immediately decides she knows who did it. She is of course wrong. I found her to be a bit swift to judge and unkind in her regards to the person she suspects. The ending was a bit of an oddity too with the crime figured out and another crime happening, and she decides not to tell the police who did this one, even though she knows the person responsible - odd for a detective. less
