review 1: This book was really more of a 3.5, but it was fun enough to read that just a 3 star didn't seem fair. the idea behind the book was interesting, the world was developed well enough. in the beginning there is a blatantly ridiculous idea put out there that all of the people in the city are given surgery to remove a crucial part of the brain. this yanked me right out of the story with how unrealistic it is and I wondered whether the author was somehow devoid of understanding when it came to biology. Happily, this glaring problem was addressed. Of course there were moments when I was bored of how the protagonist's boyfriend was a twat, but if I loved every character all the time it wouldn't move the plot very well. overall a fun read.
review 2: I enjoyed reading
... morethis book so tense at some bits that I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out what happens next but with that said I must admit it was a lot like the book 'Divergent' by Veronica Roth; they had the same sort of setting and 'dilema'. But I'm still looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy because Gemma Malley's intriguing writing technique is definitely my cup of tea. less

Some good ideas but definitely too much cliches. Frustrating and disappointing.

An enjoyable dystopia - although it doesn't hit all the highs all the time.
