review 1: Every now and then I hear people asking, where is steampunk going and is everything that the genre has to offer already done. Apparently, no. Judging by the cover, I thought the book was going to be some showy, pretty, gadget-y story with old-fashioned circus atmosphere for spice. (I could live with that. ... moretory and present. Story takes place in a pretty bleak future where group have people managed to survive by putting on a mechanical circus. I'll leave it at that as the story unfolds really well and quite frankly not for everyone unless you like this sort of read. If you liked The Night Circus you'll probably appreciate Mechanique. less
