review 1: Picked this up on a whim, and glad that I did. I'm always a sucker for a good fairy tale retelling, and this is a good historical fiction spin on the Twelve Dancing Princesses. Placing it in the Jazz Age was an excellent choice, allowing for some flexibility while being able to stick to the bones of the original story. Some of the writing style is a little odd, she uses parenthesis way too much, but overall a quick and engaging read.
review 2: This is a retelling of the 12 Dancing Princesses set in 1920's New York. The way the story is re-imagined to comment on surviving trauma is surprisingly deep. It's difficult to build a story around 12 main characters, but while this is clearly the eldest "Princess'" tale, there are different ways of coping with a difficul
... moret situation and twelve sisters gives you a wide choice to choose from. The sisters need to stick together in order to survive their father's "castle", but once they escape, the protagonist learns to let go and let her sisters make their own choices. Because it's set in 1920's, women's choices are somewhat limited, but I like how characters make different choices for their own reasons within those limits. It's a deceptively simple story, but there's a lot that sticks with you afterwards. I can tell this will become a comfort read already because I like what it has to say about the possibility of moving on from trauma. less

Didn't expect to like it but it was pretty good. Would have been awesome if it was a true story.

a quick read of a familiar tale. I love the era, and the story drew me in until the end.
