review 1: I had always wondered what Pixar's Incredibles had been like if it weren't PG friendly. This short novel answered that question.The Umbrella Academy is a cheeky, smart, and oddly serious rendering of a dysfunctional collection of orphans in an even more dysfunctional family. The story follows gifted orphans—our heroes-in-question—as they grow older and must address an impending apocalypse while putting past conflicts behind them. The writing is super-tight, ultra poignant, and brilliantly delivered within its very animated, almost-over-the-top style.My only complaint is that the story ends far too soon, without exploring the brevity of each character and their individual lives. This comes as a heavy disappointment because the characters are all brilliantly conceived an... mored well-voiced by Way. It's a shame the world wasn't explored in its full capacity. Hoping for future releases!
review 2: 1. My only issue was that I kept getting confused on names because each academy member had three identities.2. Otherwise, it was beautiful. Artwork, storyline, the drama.3. I can't wait to see what happens next.4. Admittedly, I don't listen to MCR, but I'm sure the fans are loving this. I'm a teen librarian and a lot of my teens listen to MCR and they told me about this book and they were obsessed so I had to be obsessed, too.5. Poor Pogo.6. Will they fashion a voice box for Rumor? What's happening with Vanya? Will Rumor and Space become adopted brother/sister lovers? Is the Kraken in love with Vanya?7. I wish Vanya's book was real. less
