The Missing Wife | Sheila O’Flanagan | Mini Review

Official Blurb

What the blurb says: “Have you ever wanted to disappear?

When Imogen Naughton vanishes, everyone who knows her is shocked. She has a perfect marriage. Her handsome husband treats her like a princess. She’s always said how lucky she is. So why has she left? And how will she survive without Vince?

What goes on behind closed doors is often a surprise, and Imogen surprises herself by taking the leap she knows she must. But as she begins her journey to find the woman she once was, Imogen’s past is right behind her…

Will it catch up with her? And will she be ready to face it if it does?”

My View (no spoilers)

I chose this book for a little light reading, I was in the mood for an easy page turner and it was just the ticket.

The Missing Wife starts off gently yet builds pace quickly. Imogen leaves her comfortable life and disappears completely covering her tracks.  As the story develops, it becomes clear why she felt she needed to leave her husband Vince, her friend Shona and her job as a successful Personal Assistant and start afresh.

The character development in the first few chapters is superb, not only do we soon empathise with Imogen but we also see her grow in stature and confidence in her new persona. We learn about Imogen’s family and childhood as the story unfolds and it enhances the story further.

With tension rising throughout the book, I am sad to say that the ending is a disappointing let-down. Not only was her past situation not resolved, once again we see a woman who has beaten the odds, stood on her own two feet and found independence ready to just give it all up again so quickly.

Would have happily given this 4 stars if it had a better ending but I am afraid I can only give it a generous three.
