review 1: This book was just what I needed after some very emotional reads. It was an incredibly sweet read, full of friendship and love, and yes, sometimes how messed up friendships can be when sex is involved. I was very torn half the time, I loved Rob and Maddy as a couple, but (apart from the douchey way he was with Alice) Ben made my heart absolutely ache. I felt it was a great representation of school life, and especially the trials and tribulations, and also the awesome parts, of being the only girl in a group full of guys. The relationships were so real as well, both the ups and the downs. It's one of those books that makes you want nothing more than to cuddle up with the one you love and never let go.
review 2: I didn’t think much of You’re The One That I Wa
... morent when I first saw it and read the blurb. I initially thought the main plot-line was a cliche in itself. Having pretty low expectations, I was actually pleasantly surprised.Normally, I find it somewhat hard to grow to love a character in a book. Sometimes, if the book is in a series, it actually takes a couple of books for me to empathize. However, the characters in You’re The One That I Want appealed to me from the start and I’ve never known a book to do that before.Another great thing about this book was the characters’ relatability. Everything they thought about, decided on and did was incredibly realistic, particularly in one mature, but very well-handled, scene when they are sixteen. Generally the characters were probably the best feature in the book, and so well-developed and likeable.Giovanna Fletcher’s writing style slightly reminded me of Cathy Cassidy, just for a slightly older audience. She began the story with Maddy and Robert’s wedding as the prologue and explained the events leading up to it in the book. It could have worked really well and it was refreshing, but it made the book more predictable because you knew what would happen in the end. She also used a multiple POV which was really effective, but she didn’t write anything from Rob’s POV, which I wanted to see. I also found a couple of cliched phrases in her writing which I wasn’t enormously impressed with.Of course, You’re The One That I Want us a romance novel, so it’s meant to be romantic, right? At times, it actually ended up becoming too romantic and turning a bit slushy. There’s a couple of romantic storylines in Paris that is featured, and this was pretty unoriginal.Overall, You’re The One That I Want was a very enjoyable novel, despite some cliches, and I would recommend it. less
