review 1: I am probably one of the lot who read this book because Giovanna Fletcher is the wife of Tom Fletcher. Tom Fletcher is the lead vocals (?) of the band, McFly. I didn't even know McFly, until last year, when a friend shared with me a link of Tom's "wedding speech". It was sooooooo sweet. And now I'm following both Tom and Giovanna on Instagram, I'm listening to some of McFly's songs (I started with the "Greatest Hits" album, haha!) and I'm reading up on Giovanna's books. :))Anyway, on the book. I didn't really expect much. But actually, it wasn't so bad. It was a bit typical, because there's this small-town, country girl who meets a famous actor, and they fall in love. I've read this a million times. (Okay, maybe just twice or thrice.) It's not my favorite with the country... more girl - famous actor pair, but it was enjoyable. I LOVE small town settings! Maybe this is what engaged me. There were quite a few characters who were really, really (really!) irritating, so I guess, in a way, I wasn't totally unaffected with the story.There were some scenes that I felt were too OA, maybe due to the lack of earlier scenes to back it up. But as I said, it wasn't so bad. And I'm not saying this because it's Giovanna Fletcher! :))She has a new book, Christmas With Billy And Me, which is a continuation of the story, and I'm still thinking if I should buy a copy or not. Or if I should wait. It is Christmas season, after all! :)
review 2: Billy and Me is based on Sophie, a quiet and anxious girl who works in a teashop. While there, she meets Billy, a teen star actor. Sophie is pulled into the limelight and the story follows her and her adaptation and ability to cope with the demands she is under.I have read this book twice now and both times, it has made me cry. I mean, really cry. Like turn into an emotional blubbering wreck. This story is just beautiful. Gi has an infectious writing style, which is really special and leaves me just wanting to read more.You feel exactly what Gi wants you to feel along with what the actors are feeling and what the words make you feel. I would highly recommend any of Gi's books, but this is by far, definitely my favourite from her! less
