review 1: I am happy to have found a new mystery writer and one with a sense of humor! While the story wasn't terribly deep, who expected that anyway with a title like this one. G.M. Malliet has a light hand and develops the characters well. It wasn't hard to figure out who to like and who not to, and frankly, I didn't guess who did it! I look forward to reading the next one in the series, Death of a Lit Chick.
review 2: The reviews of this book and the awards it won made me eager to read a new author who might become a favorite. This is a busy time in my life when I don't have as much time as I would like to sit and read without falling asleep. I wanted to really like this mystery so even though it took me a couple of weeks of precious reading time to finish it I wa... mores a faithful reader to the end. When I finally read the last chapter and sat there with the completed book in my hands what came to mind was a quote from one of my favorite movies, Murder By Death....."You've tricked & fooled your readers for years. You've tortured us all with surprise endings that made no sense. You've introduced characters in the last five pages that were never in the book before. You've withheld clues and information that made it impossible for us to guess who did it." Arrrrrrgh!!!! I knew I should have just read one of my favorite Agatha Christie mysteries again. less
