review 1: "In a cozy white house, in the town of Messina, eight little girls studied dance with Miss Lina," our book begins, almost echoing the start of Madeline (at least it reminded me of it). In a sweet little rhyming story, it tells the story of how eight little girls became nine and how they learned to make space in their group for the ninth. The back of the book has a very short glossary of ballet terms (all of which are used in the book) which makes a nice, friendly reference. I can just imagine the little girls falling all over this one. Gasp! A ballet book!
review 2: This reminded me a bit of the Madeline books. Eight little girls - Christina, Edwina, Sabrina, Justina, Katrina, Bettina, Marina, and Nina - dance at Miss Lina's ballet academy. In four lines of t
... morewo they dance at school, in the park, at the zoo, and even to bed. Then another student, Regina, comes and upsets their four lines of two. Here's something else I like - the words to describe how the original eight felt when they became nine - abashed, baffled, befuddled, flummoxed, flustered, mixed-up and muddled. Great words to use to expand a child's vocabulary! But all is well as the nine little girls now dance in three lines of three. Charming illustrations of the little dancing girls. There is also a short ballet vocabulary list at the end. less
