review 1: Fairy tales retold in verse, accompanied by very detailed watercolor illustrations.This would be a useful book when looking at variants of stories, folk tales and fairy tales, and doing readers theater. The illustrations have a find and seek feature - recurring characters in each picture and other hidden images which while fun, felt gimmicky. The use of different cultures throughout the book is a plus.
review 2: This combination of traditional fairy tales told in rhyming text with 'seek-and-find' pictures may draw a wider audience than a text without all three components. The cover itself is very inviting. Quite clever writing to put the stories into rhyme! Some lines don't flow smoothly when read aloud. The simplicity leaves out some details, for example, Snow... more White's wicked queen just disappears from the text.Detailed illustrations depict several cultures. A keen eye will discover most of the listed items, but some are a bit vague to identify. Colorful, intricately done watercolors make the reader want to linger over each and every page.I hope this will be able to compete with Disney princesses! less
