review 1: Reading this book was not an enjoyable experience, but nevertheless I recognize it's significance, and the talent of the author. Deeply disturbing, especially for those who say have had a religious upbringing. I believe it is an excellent portrayal of how dangerous religious indoctrination can be. Written with imagination and empathy the author takes you inside a home and inside a mind which one would not usually understand. A great read for all who wish to understand more about how religion can affect the mind. At times the book strayed off on strange tangents, but on the whole it was a page turner and the story remains with you for a long time after the finishing the last page.
review 2: Creepy, intense, harrowing, funny, unbelievable; yet somehow grounded in
... more a terrible reality (especially the bullying at school/the workplace/the house), but a lot too "book groups" for my taste. The use of language is worth five stars but the plot is so odd I cannot give more than two. I love books I would recommend to a male relative.....this? This they would hate! I hope things turn out well for the author as she pursues her musical dream, I think all things considered she is taking the right path in quitting her pen. less

A captivating read. Not an 'easy' story by any means, but thought provoking and well worth the time.
