review 1: This is the first book I've read by Gregg Hurwitz but it certainly won't be the last. "You're Next" is one of the best books I've read this year. Non-stop suspense with likeable characters trying to survive. The denouement is a bit farfetched, but not totally impossible. One of my favorite things was a father trying to protect his child and at the same time coping with her having head lice. Not your ordinary plot. For anyone who likes suspense novels, this one is highly recommended.
review 2: You're Next is one of the most suspenseful thrillers I've ever read. Mike Wingate was 4 when his father dropped him off at a park and never came back. In spite of a rough childhood in foster homes, The adult Mike has a successful contracting business, a happy marriag... moree and s delightful 8-year-old daughter. Then his past comes back to haunt him. Winning an award puts his picture in the newspaper and brings thugs into his life who want to kill him. When he goes to the local police for help, they are more interested in investigating him than coming to his aid. Then his world totally falls apart. Mike's wife is in the hospital fighting for her life and Mike and his daughter, Kat, are on the run from relentless pursuers, who have somehow managed to get the cops on their side.The result is a very fast-paced tale with some heart-wrenching moments as Mike tries to protect his daughter. For most of the book, neither Mike nor the reader knows who wants him dead or why. I often find motive to be a weakness in thrillers and I was worried about that here, but Gregg Hurwitz came through. less
