review 1: Miranda Blackwood lives on Roanoke Island, the very island where 114 people vanished without a trace. Miranda has always been an outsider, although her family has lived on this island since it was discovered. Phillips, the son of the police chief, lives at a year round reform school. He's only there because he wants to be. Phillips hears the voices of spirits who died on the island and does anything to get away from them. When Phillips gets a call from his dad, he rushes back to Roanoke Island. He has one mission, save Miranda, he has a feeling she is the next target. After all, the Blackwoods are cursed. Phillips (pretty much randomly from Miranda's view) shows up at Miranda's house, but something is terribly wrong. Will these two put aside their differences when 114 peop... morele mysteriously go missing over night? Will there be a hint of unlikely romance? And why is the word frack used so many times in this book? Actually I'll answer that last one... Battlestar Galactica.
review 2: My opinion of this book rapidly changed from liking to not liking a countless number of times whilst I was reading it. It is based on a cool idea - combining history with modern times. However, I found the details of the plot confusing, especially towards the end when everything was supposed to come together. I did like the overall characterization, but it was a bit of a struggle completing this novel. less
