If you’re anything like me, you continue to buy books even when you have a stack of unfinished books on your nightstand. My site is called The Honey Print for a reason – I love print books. I don’t own a Kindle (I know they’re great for travel, etc). But I only read print books, and I love them. I keep all my books. Sometimes I finish them fully, and sometimes – I admit – I leave them half complete as I dive into something new. You could say I’m a book addict.
But still, I love receiving recommendations for new books! I buy a book as soon as someone tells me to read it. So that’s what I’m doing for you – recommending, or at least sharing, what I’m reading. If you decide to purchase any of these, I highly recommend seeking out a local bookseller! I buy all my books from Parnassus Books here in Nashville. There’s nothing like the sense of community and possibility of being surrounded by books and other people to recommend new ones to you.
And so, here are 3 new books I’ve recently added to the pile on my nightstand:
The Queen of the Night by Alexander Chee
This one is about an opera singer in Paris. At over 500 pages, the plot is intricate, and the language itself is operatic. I’m only 100 pages in, and remain intrigued. Have you read this one?
The Family Fang by Kevin Wilson
I know this one was a movie, although I never saw it. This book came recommended to me at Parnassus. Have you read it? I’m told it’s funny – haven’t started it yet, but can’t wait!
The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson
This one I finished! Hooray! This story takes place in East Sussex, 1914 and focuses on a small town before World War I hits, a Latin teacher named Beatrice Nash (and the struggles she faces being a woman in such a profession), and the complications of living as a member in this small community. The book begins with small town drama and escalates into the aftermath of the war and its effects on families and relationships. It compels the whole way. Highly recommend.
