review 1: D. C. Fiona Griffiths is still doing things her own way. She makes friends with the tough supervisor Watkins. The case in this book is two bodies found in several parts in different yards, freezers, etc. One is identified as a young woman who disappeared several years ago, and the other had only been missing a few days. Fiona goes off investigating on her own and almost dies of hypothermia. Although Fiona is somewhat strange, the plot seems to hang together and I enjoyed the book.
review 2: 3.5 stars. A satisfying follow-up to the first book featuring Welsh Detective Fiona Griffiths. Griffiths is in recovery from Cotard's Disease, which she describes as a combination of deep depression and dissociation, which leads sufferers to believe they are actually ... moredead. Griffiths was much more interesting and, frankly, normal than in the first book. My complaints are that the plot took a long time to develop and the last 50 pages limped along with the loose ends taking way too long to get wrapped up. less
