review 1: This novel approaches a topic for which I have an aversion: child abuse. I was not sure I could read this story, at first. Yet, despite its delicate subject matter, it is handled more on the level of culpability and less on the physical traumas involved. Two parallel stories flow and intertwine to display both the dilemmas facing a child taken from family and that of the parent who fails to care appropriately for a child. Although an unpalatable subject, the story is woven in such a way to make it interesting and involving. I would definitely consider reading more by this author.
review 2: Ellen is a dedicated and tireless Social Worker and a loving mother of three. Her world begins to crumble when a horrible accident happens and she is facing the same scruti... moreny that she put many of her cases through. It is heart wrenching as you ride the waves of emotions with her and her family. Little Jenny, a run away brings a different perspective to the story and little mercies abound. I loved this story . less
