review 1: 4.5 stars. (3.5 for the story, 4 for the heat, and 5 for exploring characters in the context of gay bear/geek, brain/brawn, and D/s interplay in a small town)Similar to the preceding, first book in this series, this is romantic story with plenty of erotic heat. The author includes a bit of an exploration of the way gender/masculine roles interplay with the gay, small town experience. I normally avoid romance stories that involve BDSM, as I found they generally seem very off-the-mark compared to my years of personal experience in "the Scene." This title is different, being the first I've read that doesn't simply throw in a little pseudo-domination, force, non-consent, or pain labelled as BDSM for titillation's sake, but instead presents motivations, desires, and at least... more some self/partner negotiations that ring true for at least part of the "real-life" BDSM community. Also, the "submissive" librarian included preachy (in a very good way for me) strength and patience while the detached, strong "Dominant" character had his own vulnerabilities. The biggest "kink" critique I would make is the first physical encounter turned into "non-consensual, forced" role play that would normally requires a level of trust and understanding the two hadn't developed.
review 2: 3.5 After getting to know Arthur in book one I was not expecting to enjoy his story, but I was pleasantly surprised. While I can't say the sex and Gabriels fantasy’s were my cup of tea the emotional aspects certainly were. Insecure characters are a particular favourite with me and in this story I had two. Arthur grew on me more, despite his kinks, and Gabriel was sweet.I also love kids in my stories and little Thomas quickly stole my heart. The whole library story time was the highlight of this read for me and I certainly needed my tissues a time or two. There were a few times I felt the story was being padded out with descriptions not really needed for the story, but that's a personal niggle.I am now eager for Pauls story less
