review 1: It was very interesting, but so much information about the last Romanovs was destroyed, some by them at the end (Alexandra burned a lot of diaries and letters so that they couldn't be used as evidence against her in the trial she thought was coming), and the family kept so much to themselves anyway, there just wasn't a lot of revealing information about them. So it was more about the family in general than the girls in particular. That said, the author did a terrific job of creating the world they lived in. As I read it, I spent a lot of time online looking up the geographical and in some cases architectural places where things happened. I really did enter their world - it was quite fascinating!
review 2: This was a somewhat mediocre chronicle of the lives of t
... morehe doomed Romanov sisters, though Rappaport's volume does not in fact live up to its title. It can't be described as a biography of the Romanov sisters per se, as it focuses as much on their parents and brother. In fact, the most clearly drawn character is their mother, Alexandra, the last czarina. For royalist fans (and I must confess that I am one), it has the usual smattering of interesting detail about the lives of this unusual royal family of Europe, again particularly about Alexandra; we come away understanding relatively little about the czar, and even less about the process that led to his abdication and his family's death. It's a readable volume, but not a particularly high-quality one. less

very good read and I can honestly say the theory of Anastasia's survival is put to rest.
