review 1: The genre of The Runaway Princess is romance. It is pretty fast paced without brushing over important details. This isn't a young or forbidden romance novel, so if you enjoyed Twilight for its forbidden love and fantasy aspects, this book would not be for you. But if you liked To Marry A Prince then you might find interest in this book. The Runaway Princess is fairly cheesy, and not the best romance novel I've ever read, but I had not found a book a liked in a while, and this book intrigued me enough that I didn't have to stop after the second chapter. One thing that I really like about romance novels in general is that they are up beat and fun; The Runaway Princess was no exception. The main character Amy, is a garden designer fresh out of college living with a "flatmate... more", Jo in London. Amy is the girl who is content to stay in the kitchen during parties, and enjoys a Friday night on the couch with pizza. Amy wasn't too keen on dating either until one party when she met a man almost too good to be true. But from then on Amy is delving deep into the world of charity galas and private flights. Through out the book you see how Amy struggles to find a balance between the luxuries of dating a Prince and being true to her down to Earth self. As if the pressure of dating royalty isn't enough Amy's family back in Yorkshire relocated due to an incident with Amy's sister Kelly. When Amy visits her family for a holiday her mom responds to Amy's new boyfriend with the same formality she had when she opened the door to the police the day Kelly left. Amy is on the verge of a break down when suddenly it all becomes too much. I rated this book two stars because I liked the humorous conversations between Amy and Jo, and the comic relief that Jo provided. I also liked the little glimpse into life in London, and all of the English phrases that were abundant in this book. The Runaway Princess was a little too cheesy for me and not the highest quality of writing. This book wasn't thought provoking or conversation worthy, it wasn't a book that I will keep on my shelves. For these reasons, I did not rate this book the remaining three stars.
review 2: Read this after enjoying "the Vintage Girl" so much. There's definitely a formula in the 2 books I've read, and I'd definitely read more, but think I need to leave a bit of a gap in between reading, as they were very similar. This one was much more far fetched, but I absolutely love the cheesy, innocent romance! I'd look out for more. For a nice, innocent, light read, I'm adding Hester Browne as one of my favourite authors! less
