review 1: Finally part of Hohenheim's role in the story is revealed - and I love the part that tells his backstory.This story never let's you rest. There is so much goign on and still it never feels as if Arakawa-sensei forgets about characters or stories. I love the way the plot thickens and every move is more dangerous for the important characters now - and they still find clever ways to sneak information to each other and communicate. Now Olivier is a new part of all of this and in an attempt to attack before being attacked she tries to get to the heart of the army conspiracy. Meanwhile the group around Mei and Scar tries to decipher the information Scar's brother has left about the Alchemy of both Amerestis and Xing.Conspiracy, traitors and spies on all sides and a race to stop ... morethe plans of the first Homunculus.I loved the part where Ed is facing of with Kimblee and it brings to light how crucial his connection with his brother is. Ah, and Hohenheim meeting and helping Izumi... Just great.
review 2: Hiromu Arakawa, Fullmetal Alchemist vol. 19 (ViZ, 2008)Alternating sections tell the present-day story of the Elric Brothers and their lost band trying to figure out a way back into the fortress without the guys from Central knowing about Scar's presence and the past storyline of von Hoehenheim's beginnings and his first meeting with Pride. All the while, Sloth is still digging his tunnel under the fort, not that anyone in the fort is oblivious to his presence. Arakawa keeps interest high and has a lot of fun with the storyline. Good stuff. *** ½ less
