review 1: Here we are with the penultimate volume of this series. Everything is coming to a head, the build up of years of storytelling coming together at last, and the execution of it all is fantastic. Fullmetal Alchemist has become the standard that I measure great shounen by: well developed characters, an interesting (and at times quite intricate) plot, solid artwork, the perfect balance between action and emotion. Yes, this series makes me cry in the end. Final volume in December!
review 2: Hiromu Arakawa, Fullmetal Alchemist, vol. 26 (ViZ, 2010)NOTE: this review contains a major spoiler for vol. 25—peruse at your own risk if you have not yet read vol. 25.FMA's penultimate volume ratchets up the action yet again, as the five human sacrifices face off against Pr
... moreide and the Dwarf in the Flask, while Scar continues his epic battler against Wrath. All well and good, and just when it looks like things are darkest—WAIT, THAT CLIFFHANGER. Oh, man, I think I'll be putting vol. 27 on hold at the library tonight... *** ½ less
