review 1: 3.5 stars — pretty good for a bridge book. I really enjoy Cassel, and Jesse is great at capturing his voice in the narration (fact: I can't unsee Jesse as Cassel in the as-yet-to-be-made movie, and that's not a bad thing). I keep hoping Barron is going to redeem himself as a big brother, and I hope many happy things for Sam & Daneca, and Lila keeps breaking my heart. Grandpa gets the awesome award for being the only decent adult in Cassel's life, despite his illustrious past as a Death worker (he's still a better influence than mom).Take away quote: "Nothing good happens after midnight."
review 2: I am surprised this series isn't one of the big shots in YA genre, or even among the fantasy world. Holly Black has built a very solid society full of magic and pol... moreitics that make you want to dig deeper and deeper. You get to know a bit more of the big idea, of how politics work in this society. You also get to know a bit more of the friends, Daneca and Sam are nice companions but it's the sad love story that makes my heart ache. Cassel loves Lila, Lilas has been cursed to love him back, but what he sacrifices for his love is so big that no one can understand his "goodness". Casell is a great character and he has great struggles along the way. I like it that he's not perfect, that he commits mistakes but at the same time he struggles to do the right thing. Specially with the friends he is learning to have.Great book, dying to read the third one! less
