review 1: OOOOH, wonderful new book by Howard Norman. I fell in love with his writing years ago when I read The Bird Artist. Listen to this FIRST SENTENCE: "After my wife, Elizabeth Church, was murdered by the bellman Alfonse Padgett in the Essex Hotel, she did not leave me." How's that for a grabber? And he never lets go.
