review 1: A caveat: I'm not any sort of expert in the area of graphic novels, so if you're looking for an expert review of the Lovecraft Anthology, this isn't it. This review serves for both volumes in this series. I enjoyed both volumes, although the second volume had some fonts that were hard to read. The artwork is mostly beautifully executed, and they're pretty good translations of the stories into graphic novel format. I do think you lose a little bit of the creepiness factor that you get in the original prose from Lovecraft, but most of the artwork choices maintain the macabre feel (a couple were a little too cartoon-ish and this worked against the subject matter). Often the artwork not only fit the subject, but moved forward the tone of the story in ways the written word alon... moree doesn't (a good example was the story "The Temple" -- the artwork had a kind of sharp edged alien feel to it that fit the steadily increasing madness of the submarine crew).
review 2: Toista kertaa pässiä mankeloimassa, jo rullaa paremmin. Samankaltainen setti kuin ekassa, nyt käsittelyssä Lovecraftin varhaisempia/vähäisempiä tuotoksia, jotka kenties suoraviivaisuudessaan sovittuvatkin paremmin sarjakuviksi. Mukavalla tavalla old school -tyylistä kauhustelua tämä. Mukiinmenevimpinä erottuvat The Temple (sovitus Chris Lackey, piirros Adrian Salmon) ja The Festival (sovitus Simon Spurrier, piirros Matt Timson). Puhekuplat ja tekstilaatikot eivät ole enää läpikuultavia. Yay. less

Most of the stories were ones I was unfamiliar with and a nice mix of art styles.
