Dulcie O'Neil
review 1: Dulcie O'neil is the ultimate Mary Sue of characters. This book has its moments- it really does- but I see much more telling than showing and it gets tiresome. Dulcie gets drooled over (and either almost-raped or forcefully made out with) by literally every single hot dude in the story. The reader is told many times throughout the story that Dulcie Is So Amazing, but she makes rookie, dangerous moves and it's not apparent by Dulcie's actions what, exactly, makes her The Best Cop Ever. I really wanted to like this series, but the combination of the super-forced characters and the completely out-of-the-blue villain has solidified my decision to not read the next novels in the series.
review 2: Hm. Yikes. At the start of the book Dulcie's determination to keep Kni
... moreght at arm's length for what seemed like "just because" reasons was really annoying. I couldn't hang with the excuses about her ex, it didn't fit - it felt like just that, a stupid excuse. Her whole resistance felt like a plot device that served no real purpose, especially considering the ridiculous jealousy thing she had going on every time Knight sneezed in the direction of another woman. Knight's hitting on Dulcie and being super verbally vulgar and physically pushy when she'd made it clear -- several times -- she wanted his advances to stop was just beyond the pale and made me pretty much hate him. When someone tells you "no" or "stop" or "I'll work with you on the condition you pull your god damned head out of your ass and get it through your thick fucking skull I'm not interested - and keep your fucking paws off me while you're at it", you don't keep pressing them. You stop. Period. Even if it's clear they're actually attracted and warring with themselves. But no, of course he doesn't stop and that really made me almost hate him. I actually wanted to slap the both of them for being assholes regarding that, and it was hard to give up my grudge against Knight as the rest of the book carried on. That said, I really liked the plot of this book as far as the Dreamstalker business went. It was creative and the advancement of that part of the plot was well-crafted and fun for the reader, with just the right amount of suspense and details given at the right time. STUPID CLIFF HANGER ENDING (that is, the cliff hanger aspect is unfair and torturous, not that the ending was stupid). Yet again, an easy, fun read. less

Dulcie #2 is a fun rubber game in the series leading us directly into the next adventure.
