review 1: I don't pretend to be a Shakespeare scholar, or even have an intimate knowledge of the workings of iambic pentameter. From the little Shakespeare I have read, I can with confidence say that this book was an excellent effort. The verse was beautiful, the wordplay and tongue-in-cheek moments were savvy and sophisticated (indeed, there is an innate, pan-like sense of humor that pervades the whole book...and has to, for it to work so well) as well as humorous--if science fiction and space opera had existed in Elizabethan England, this would have surely been the result.At its worst (which is NOT bad at all), it is still a far better re-imagining of the tale than either the "special editions" (of which mention and subtle mockery is made) or the forgettable preq... moreuels.
review 2: William Shakespeare’s Star WarsIan DoescherRating: 3.5 starsI’m a big Star Wars fan and having it written in poem form was very refreshing. I’ve seen Episode IV numerous times and reading the book when it’s in this form made it seem like a different story. While it had a lot of Shakespearian elements it still managed to stay true to the story. All in all William Shakespeare’s Star Wars was entertaining and fun to read.The story starts in a Rebellion ship that is being taken over by the Empire. Two droids, C3-PO and R2-D2, escape into Tantooine. The droids are then purchased by the Skywalker family. They then seek out Ben Kenobi, AKA Obi Wan Kenobi, who then goes on an adventure with them. They take out the Death Star and save the galaxy. I recommend this book to anyone over 6th grade because the words might be too difficult for anyone younger to comprehend. less
