review 1: I tried to avoid dystopian YA novels.But the synopsis mentions aliens so I tried it out.It wasn't a 'wow this is incredible' nor a 'I love it' book. But I did finish it within 2 weeks despite busy schedule and recommend it to my teenage niece.Like one of the reviews (I believe the word is 'cinematic'), the words used in the novel is very 'action-packed', very visual. It's plants images/actions into your mind, and that makes it a good read for people who loves action-packed movies. So does the fact that the trio (alright, 4 , including the dog Max) keep getting themselves into, and out of, dangerous, life threatening situations. Very movie-like.I also like it that the romance is kept minimal (obviously I am not a fan of romance). Not a must-read, but do read it if you ... morelike books of this genre.
review 2: Way, I think you might like this one. I'm not really sure why, just seems like it might be your kind of thing. It's post-apocalyptic - set after an alien invasion - so it feels more science-fiction than most YA dystopias. Yet it's more fantasy than science-fiction. Romance doesn't take centerstage. The worldbuilding is occasionally sketchy at times, but it's still kind of interesting and though the tropes are there, it somehow seems imaginative. Maybe a bit on the long side, but the characters are decent enough and yeah, there are still plenty of questions (like what exactly the aliens are doing with the adults and oh, why did the aliens invade anyway?) but it's the first book, and so much of this feels cinematic (in a good way). The elements are familiar but the read itself feels unique. less
