review 1: I ploughed through this really quickly because it sucked me in from the beginning. I was desperate to know how everything would pan out and to discover exactly what was going on in this fast-paced medical thriller. Some might find the scientific and medical terminology and details confusing, which is a shame as they are integral to the plot. As a hardcore nerd I loved it all and found myself looking up new terms frequently. Because of this I found this novel a great learning experience as well as a gripping read.
review 2: Well, this was definitely something different from my typical read. I'm not a nurse, medical student or a doctor, nor do I ever intend to be. So, having a great majority of this book be doctors screaming names of medical drugs to each other r
... moreeally didn't bring the excitement to my table. And I would have to say that the only patient that I found to be interesting was the first one you are reading about when you start reading this book. That was the only time I felt any kind of adrenaline associated with this read.Jill was boring. I'm not seeing how she saw any kind of connection. I'm not understanding why she felt so compelled to investigate, and quite frankly, I think there should have been more cases to tip her off. This whole scenario was rushed, not thought out well, and not put well together at all. The idea was great, but the execution was sloppy, very sloppy.I just want to make sure that the author is aware that her romance escalated very quickly, like seriously out of control. I'm not sure if she realizes that Jill and David went from David apparently embarrassing her in front of a patient, to Jill crying in a closet, to David asking Jill out to lunch and then again to dinner, Jill bailing on dinner, then David showing up anyway, and then Jill and David having sex and proclaiming their love for one another! That is AWFUL. That is LAZY. Why was there a need for romance in this book if you weren't actually going to make an effort with it?As for the rest of the "mystery". It was intriguing enough to keep me reading, but nothing more than that. I wasn't surprised with the "twist". Unfortunately, it was set up in a way that you really didn't care one way or another who was doing these things. And I wasn't buying what was being sold to me about a certain character anyway.Speaking of characters, the characterization didn't exist. I have no attachment to any of them. I don't know anything about them, with the exception that Jill is a paranoid, idiotic, nosy, selfish twat.I may read the next one because I am interested in the fetus...but I'm not sure...I'm not very impressed with Schneider's writing style. less
