review 1: I picked up this book because I'm a big Jack Cambell (aka John Hemry) fan, and well, Dragons! As Hemry writes Military Sci-Fi (and does it well) I didn't expect to find myself in the middle of a steampunk YA forbidden fruit romance novel. But I did, and I loved every minute of it.Alain is a Spock-like unfeeling Mage, and Mari is an impulsive, brash, brilliant Mechanic. When the two are thrown together (Mages and Mechanics hate each other) in a desperate struggle to survive, adventure follows. This is only available on Audible as an audiobook. It's well written, exciting, and I didn't know quite what to expect. It's well read by the narrator. Highly recommended.
review 2: So I have read Jack Campbells other books and was interested to see what he did in fanta
... moresy. It was not what I was expecting, I was expecting adult epic fantasy. What I got was a very good YA Fantasy book. Both of the leads were very good and their banter and relationship over time was entertaining. The world feels like a well constructed modern YA world but more fantasy. It's in a sudo dystopian world that's pretty much locked in a static position by the 2 guilds the mages guild and mechanics guild who both protect their own power at any cost and pretty much indoctrinate their members from a very young age. It's well done I highly recommend it. less
