review 2: This was an amazingly well-researched and beautifully written true account of a part of history I was unaware had even happened. While the imprisoned elite of the Nazi regime were awaiting their trial at Nuremberg, Douglas M. Kelley, an army psychiatrist, was tasked with supervising their mental state. He spent countless hours with these men assessing them and was especially fascinated with Hermann Goring. Jack El-Hai, who had access to Kelley's long hidden papers and medical records did an extraordinary job. This story even has an unexpected surprise ending. less

Fascinating, clear, and avoids the temptation to sensationalize. Way to go, Jack!
