review 1: This book was the most interesting book I have ever laid my eyes on. The Grimm Fairy Tales is my favorite type of stories. They twist and turn the truth about fairy tales. The Grimm brothers were the original fairy tale writers in my perspective. They give the most gruesome tales to the most happiest in just one story. I love that Disney princesses cover up the real story, the Grimm version of the true story. My favorite story by the Grimm brothers is Rapunzal. Even though that it has a very happy ending, I loved it either way. The prince comes and saves her from her tower and from then on they were happy together. Compared to the movie "Grimm Brothers" I would have loved it if they would've killed Rapunzal off and never got a happy ending. I believe that anyone would love... more this book, which contains many more stories, then you grew up with a very interesting lifestyle.
review 2: The Grimm Fairy tales is not necessarily a book with a defined plot; there is not one story, because every chapter is its own individual story. The stories are not censored for little kids (they're not for the easily disturbed). This book contains probably some of the most gruesome stories you'll ever read, not to say that's a bad thing at all. They are amusing to read and although a bit gory, they are fantastic stories with very distinct themes within each one. That being said, I wouldn't try reading multiple stories at once in order to finish the book faster, This book is meant to be read chapter by chapter, treating each individual story as if it were a best-selling novel (even the one-page stories). It's entertaining to see though, towards the tail-end of the book a pattern becomes clear as to what happens in most stories.1) Step-mothers are guaranteed to die a horrible, gory death2) Tailors are generally super-heroes in disguise3) People are completely ok with some animals talking but freak out when other animals speak4) You must perform numerous barely possible tasks in order to marry royalty5) The smallest, weakest person, usually completes the the toughest tasks. When all is said and done though, Jacob Grimm did a phenomenal job on this book and I couldn't ask any more out of it, other than if he could be a little less vague with character names. The characters usually amounted to just being called by their occupation name or social status, and the setting usually was just "some kingdom far off". But this novel is a fantastic display of literary art, and I feel that it will continue to be a classic reference to old tales for many years to come. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has a taste for something different from the average modern day hum-drum novels. less
