review 1: I fell a little in love with Bob the cat when I saw him on YouTube a couple of years ago, I read James Bowen's first book that details how they met, and their adventures together and enjoyed it very much. I'll be the first to admit that James Bowen is not the best writer in the world, but his story is really heartwarming.A Gift From Bob is just a short book, but look at that gorgeous cover! Bob really is a very beautiful cat.This is the story of how Christmas used to be for James, before he met Bob. James has spent time in the gutter, battling drug addiction, homelessness and hunger and he really believes that finding Bob was the turning point in his life. The companionship and the affection shown by Bob has made James reconsider how he views the world. In the book, he co... morempares himself to Scrooge in Dickens's A Christmas Carol, and looks at how his whole outlook has changed.A Gift From Bob would make a great stocking filler for any cat lover this Christmas.

His first two books, "A Street Cat Named Bob" and "The World According to Bob" were international best-sellers.All three of Bowen's books are about his life with his ginger street cat named Bob, whom he found injured outside his flat. Bowen was a recovering addict at the time, and the books tell of how he changed his life around, with Bob's help and influence.I have been a fan of James Bowen and his ever present feline companion, Bob, since the first book was released in 2012. It's impossible not to like the books; so simply written but so poignant and full of emotions.This third installment of the tales of one man and his cat is no different. However, this time, it is Christmas themed; with a beautiful Christmas themed cover to match the content inside. The book tells of how James found meaning in Christmas and turned from a scrooge to a Christmas fanatic and is unbelievably heart-warming, moving and thought-provoking.This book does an exceptionally good job of making it's readers think. In fact, all of his books do this. They make you question what is really important. At Christmas time, especially, when we place so much importance on the food and the presents, this book focuses on how the importance of Christmas is not in the things we buy, the food we have or the money we spend, but in family, in being able to share the holidays with people we love. It reminds you how the things we take for granted are the things other people struggle for; heating, electric, water."A Gift From Bob" will haunt you well after you've turned the last page. It's a book with morals, that will stick with you. It will change the way you look at Big Issue sellers; I always stop to talk and offer change if I have some now. It will make you question everything in your life and what you hold important. For that reason, it's a 5 star novel. One of my favorites this year that I can't wait to share with friends and family. less
