review 1: The Meat Market is told from the point of view of Johnny, whose one goal is to smuggle condoms onto the station that lives by what seems to be a puritanical view. No sex with anyone other than your wife, now if only every one else got that message. Taken against his will after the death of a friend and suddenly his eyes are opened to what happens in the VIP lounge and beyond across the whole colony. He's determined to make it right, any way he can. This was my first time reading James Chalk, and I have to say that I wasn't disappointed by the hype and good reviews. The book is fast paced and keeps you hooked in until the very last page, at which point you're going to want to know if there are anymore as this promises to be part of a series. Excellent writing and plot line ... moreand well worth your time! Highly recommended!
review 2: James Chalk has created a Sci-Fi story set in the future with such excellent detail and such plausibility that it's so realistic and could, in fact, probably become so. Some readers may find the subject and the content shocking, though I think that anything that shocks prudes can only be a good thing. In Jonathan Harkon we have a protagonist that is deeply involving, witty and opinionated and therefore a character we're genuinely interested in as we follow his adventures in a solar system with very different and unique colonies everywhere. The Meat Market might be dark and at times depraved but it's an excellent starting point for what is sure to be a compelling series. less

A genre i'm not familiar with, but Chalk writes a richly worked and captivating story.
