review 1: This was an extremely difficult book for me to read, however this may have been because I was only sixteen when I was reading it. At the time I hadn't grasped many of the deeper meanings within the book which hindered my appreciation for it. I did love the writing style though, it was raw and refreshing, definitely not something you come across very often. I stopped reading and put it on hiatus when I was about 3/4 through it. This summer I plan to reopen it and begin reading it again with a fresh perspective in mind. I'd recommend it to anyone ready to take a risk, go for it with an open mind.
review 2: الكتاب فضل محتفظ بتقييمه ككتاب رائع وخمس نجوم لغاية ما وصلت لصفحة ٢٧١ وهي بداية فصل Judith ... moreانقلب الكتاب لنجمتين بسبب التكرار وبسبب ان الشخصية دي كانت رديئة واسلوبها اللي بيعبر بنسبة كبيرة عن اسلوب الكاتب. مش قادرة اتخيل ازاي كتاب يفقد جماله في اخر ١٠٠ صفحة. الكتاب عموما بيتكلم عن الأديان بس مش بشكل علمي في شكل قصة، قصة بتبين بإختصار إن الأديان مش مهمة الحب هو المهم طول الكتاب كانت فيه شخصية اسمها Ben هو دة اللي كان قايم بدور انه يعمل حب مع الناس وكانت شخصية بتقدر تعمل معجزات كتير فا الناس افتكرت وصدقت ان هو المسيح وناس كتير كفروا بأديانهم بسببه وأمنوا أن الحب هو الحل. كل دة كانت فكرة الكتاب من خلال الفصول الأولى وهي عبارة عن أشخاص بيسردوا قصصهم مع Ben وازاي هو أثر فيهم وغير حياتهم. الكتاب يعيبه التكرار في اخر ١٠٠ صفحة يعني كتاب ٤٠٠ صفحة تقريبا، عُرض من خلاله ١١ قصة مختلفة عن حياة ناس وعلاقتهم بالأديان بطريقة سلسة وكل شخصية كانت ليها حاجة بتميزها، ويجي في الاخر فصل لشخصية Judith وفي الفصل الواحد دة تتكرر كل فكرة اتقالت مع كل الشخصيات! كانت صدمة خلتني اتوقف عن قراية الكتاب لفترة طويلة ومكنتش راضية ابدًا عن الشخصية وكنت مستفزة منها وحسيت ان الكاتب قرب يخلص الكتاب فا بيكروت كل حاجة في بعض وخلاص وبيتمحور حول فكرة واحدة اصبحت مملة اللي هي "الأديان ملهاش لازمة، الحب هو الحل" وحسيت ان الكاتب في كل شخصياته بيحاولوا يوصلولنا ان اي حاجة احنا مصدقينها سواء اسلام مسيحية او يهودية هي غلط ومفيش منها فايدة انتوا بتعبدوا حاجة مش بترد عليكم بس بكل سخرية كل الشخصيات اللي في الكتاب كانت مصدقة ان Ben معجزة وانه كان بطريقة ما إله وشيء مقدس عندهم.الحلو في الكتاب ان كل شخصية كانت ليها طريقة كلام بتميزها وبتبين طبقتها الإجتماعية ومنصبها، سواء قساوسة، عاهرات، مُشردين أو ناس متشديين دينيًا.حاجة كويسة تاني ان الكاتب James Frey كاتب قوي قادر انه يعبر عن رأيه في فساد الحكومة الأمريكية بكل شجاعة. اديت الكتاب ٣ نجوم علشان النهاية كانت كويسة رغم اني مش راضية عن اخر ١٠٠ صفحة. less

I am a self-profound Atheist, but when I was reading the bio on this book it reminded me of Frey's other book Bright Shiny Morning. Since I loved that book, I thought this would be an interesting choice because of it's relation to religion and the comparison in how the story was told from the view points of various characters. I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed this book and the way that one character in the book was the sole purpose for how the other characters were linked. The story is written on the premises that this gentleman is the Messiah, and that he is to bring change and love to the world. Even though there is an intertwining of religions, it focuses on the fact that essentially all religions are based on the same philosophy of promoting change and love. When you are reading you feel like you get to know each character on a deeply personal level, and how the premise of the story relates to them directly and indirectly. A well written piece of literature that if you are curious about religion but do not believe in it, you may want to explore this avenue. As much as OPRAH bashed Frey for A Million Little Pieces and My Friend Leonard, he continues to prove her wrong by turning out fabulous writing that poses questions to topics that are of high priority. Kudos to Frey for continuing his love of writing.

I'm now fully convinced Love is the only path humanity could have taken to become a successful race. However, the point of no return down the path of biological continuation is already far behind us. In short, we are doomed because we have become a hateful species, condemned by the lust of perversion of power and our lives are so controlled that a global conscious is about as far fetched an idea as can be, even with the advent of the internet and with it the ability to transcend our times and our chains.
