review 1: This is the first book in a series about Detective Inspector McLean of Edinburgh. He is newly promoted and still feeling his way through office politics at the station. He is called to an old house being renovated because a mummified mutilated corpse of a woman has been found in a hidden room in the basement. This book never slows down. There are multiple murders of supposedly unconnected victims and a mysterious connection to the past of his newly dead grandmother. An intense story that you can't put down.
