review 1: A really well-written book with a very ambitious plot. It delivers well enough after you've dug through the initial confusion of identities and timelines, but ends just as abruptly as each presentation; hence the 4 stars. I must say that the way in which the book was concluded had indeed left me quite unsatisfied. Nonetheless, I do give the author credit for the incredible effort it must have taken to have woven a riveting work for as many pages as the book lasted. (Y)

Taking place in current times, the story threads its way backto World War II with tales of Germans hiding Jews, black marketGIs, the Russian Army, and who is really guilty? and of what?So yes, as the title implies, there is a theme of justice andexistence and while I kept expecting to run into a densediscussion it's treated fairly lightly and the story keeps moving. Perhaps it's me, but I suspect contemporary novels are writtenwith the big screen and special effects in mind. Various scenesoften come across as half screenplay, half novel, including akidnapping, which while exciting, feels right out of an NYPDBlue episode. My wife picked this book up in an airport bookstore andit definitely is a story that keeps your interest on anairplane or perhaps as a 'beach read. I enjoyed thisgood ol' page turner. less
