review 1: I went to high school with Jana and her sister and brother. At the time, I had no inkling that she wanted to be a writer. As it turns out, she is an astonishingly fine writer. The Ordinary Truth is set in the west desert country near the Utah Nevada border. Her subject is the water grab by Las Vegas of the water in those arid valleys. This story is told by three generations of strong women living and trying o come to term with their relationships (mother daughter grandmother and aunt)and their environments both physical and emotional. Jana knows the life of these women for she has lived it. There are no easy answers or solutions to the dilemma's these women face but their journeys are ultimately life affirming. Highly recommended.
review 2: I love Jana R
... moreichman's writing - the characters are inextricably linked to their landscape, and the landscape itself is described so vividly and uniquely that it becomes a character of its own. This book manages to tie family dynamics into the politics of water in the arid US southwest - the parallels and connections between the two are obvious but not obviously stated, which is just as it should be ('show, don't tell, your readers what they need to know'). Highly recommended less

Kept my interest and I enjoyed the characters, mostly...not sure about the ending though.
