review 1: Ok, this book falls into the category of research for my in-progress novel, but turned into a guilty pleasure. I give credence to the critics' charges of fluff, a wee bit of exaggeration in the psycho-drama department, but it reeled me in anyway as a good example of how one person in a family can occupy more than their share of the psychological space, and the frequent responsibility of the mother or mother proxy to make it all work. I'm full on to reading more Jane Green!!!

Despite the nightmare, her step daughter Emily is. Reeling from trouble to trouble, Emily ... morehas the chance to break or unite the family. My issues with the book are the characters, Andi and her high expectations, Ethan's lack of backbone, Sophia the perfect child, and Emily the monster. Emily was written as if she was 11, she was portrayed as a little girl that was still throwing tantrums, not as an immature 17 year old. It all felt a little tired and cliched, and many scenes were harped on over and over. less
