review 1: One of the worst books I have almost read. Seriously, do people live, talk and think like this? Long, drawn-out, pointlessly inane sentence after sentence about nothing, while the 'plot' drags to it's obvious conclusion. (Which I know because I read the reviews here, not because I read that far). If I didn't know better, I'd think it was written by a man who hates women - what shallow, appalling characters these are.
review 2: This book made me cry at the end, so I'll have to conclude it was a good one.I was able to figure out the "surprise" of the book by reading the jacket. I don't know if it's because I was in a particularly clever mood, or if it's obvious to almost everyone. Were we supposed to be surprised?I did kind of like knowing though, because it w... moreas fun reading the hints and knowing what it would lead to. But maybe it would have been more fun to be shocked? I don't know.I thought it was interesting that Sylvia's family's story is told in third person and Maggie and her family's story are told in first person. What's the deal with that? less
