review 1: This book made me ANGRY. The whole. way. thru it. ANGRY. See, apparently (like Catherine Anderson and her dadgum Coulters), Janet Chapman has two clans that she writes about. And if you pick the wrong book, you're coming into the middle of a MESS that will make absolutely no sense to you. And do you think there's a list in the book - in order - of the book series so you can get the first one? Noooo. So there I was. Painfully, obviously in the MIDDLE of a series, not knowing who/what happened before or who/what now. It was a mess, with references to people other readers obviously know well... and they're just craploads of names to me. It. SUCKED.As for THIS story, it's about Eve, who is probably the most annoying, brainless whiner you will EVER meet. And the big ti... moreme-traveling magic-weilding Scottish Highlander likes her... why? There's nothing appealing about her. She apparently could get lost in his armpit, for pity's sake, spends half the book sobbing or puking, and SUCKS. Kenzie (dumb-@$$ name) is supposed to be so chivalrous, but he's just totally NOT. He knocks her up while delirious (I'm not kidding, unfortunately), and while her mother is sinking into dementia and seeing dragons that Eve refuses to even consider (in spite of the OTHER magic going on), Eve is all having 'I hate men' moments throughout the book. I hated both of them. The REAL story here was Maddy's and William's... but Chapman blew it BIG by making it secondary, never having them meet, and missing the entire romantic boat. TWICE, if you include the Eve/Kenzie debacle. GAH, I wasted time on this.OTOH, the author's notes at the end? The TRUE story of dementia? THAT was worth reading. But will I try to sort out the other books to read them? Fuggitaboutit. It wasn't good enough to entice me to bother. Solid two stars, here.
review 2: Kenzie was a beast for the most part of his very long life. After his brother, a druid, chose for him to live like an animal in order to avoid death, he spent a very very long time living life after life as an animal.Only recently he reverted back to humanity and he fell in love at his very first sight with Eve, a great woman, with a divorce in her past with a husband who run away with her money and her neighbor.Eve came back from the city after the divorce to take care of her mother, who has a sort of senility disease and she's falling apart, forgetting where she is and living in and out of her past.I lived Eve very much (and her plump friend Maddy, I can't wait to read the next book with her as main character). Kenzie was a bit too much old-mannered for my tastes but he was good.William the dragon was there too and he's the main character of the next book with Maddy, so I'm already onto it. less

Not too bad. The highlander in modern day setting was weird but okay. Solid read though. =)
