review 1: The end wasn't as climactic as I was expecting, but it still gave good closure, often in surprising ways. There were many twists and turns I didn't expect, and character role switches that were surprising. There is a major moment in the burning remnants of the casino that is powerful, but Aaron takes the time to show where the characters go after that, giving us a more realistic end and not going for a happily ever after moment. I don't know that anyone got that, but after everything that has happened in the entire series, I don't think anyone expected it either.Overall the series as a whole is very strong, very different and a great example of the Vertigo line. It ranks up there with 100 Bullets in the ranks of crime series, and it's something that no one else would have... more published. Just one more reason to love what Vertigo was, even if it isn't that anymore.
review 2: This is the final volume in a very excellent series. It read almost as a novel, but the accompanying art told more of the story than mere words could.Each of the characters we've come to know and hate or love get their ending, some literally, some in a way that you'd like to meet them again in five, or ten years' time. For many, their world fell apart. Which was pretty good for many of those who live on the fictional reservation of Prairie Rose.Highly recommended! less
