review 1: Ed Brubaker created The Winter Soldier in the pages of his run on Captain America and thus introduced me to my favorite character in the Marvel universe. When he went on to write the stand alone Winter Soldier series I was immediately intrigued and buckled in for whatever ride he planned to take me on. I continued to collect his series monthly, for over a year, until Brubaker decided to pass the torch and allow a new writer to take Winter Soldier on a new adventure. At that time I was so against the idea of a new writer attempting to continue such a phenomenal story, that I never offered Jason Latour a chance to prove he had what it took. As the opening of the film Captain America: The Winter Soldier nears, I decided to reread the series. As I completed Brubakers run, I aga... morein felt the pang of sorrow that I would never be able to look forward to a new issue with his name on the cover, but as I began Latour's run, that sorrow was soon forgotten.Jason Latour took a series that was seemingly impossible to live up to and brought it in a whole new direction that not only lived up to Brubaker's run, but added new intrigue and emotion to the character and his story. I can't recommend this book enough, I only wish that more readers would have given Jason Latour a chance to prove he had what it took to continue such a grade A series.
review 2: What a fortuitous event to have found this at Book Sale yesterday after coming out of the cinema following my first day viewing of Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. While the movie deserves more than a two thumbs up and certainly ups the ante for Marvel in terms of their Cinematic Universe, reading this volume as a part of a bigger and collective work pertaining to the ever unfolding events of the Winter Soldier himself, make me regard the book as something that is best read in its entirety along with the other volumes. This being Volume 4, after all.But it certainly makes me even more curious for the other compilations and henceforth with this volume, I will certainly be on the lookout for more.Winter Soldier, or he who I will not name (don't want to spoil Muggles), has gone thru a lot and I wait for more compilations to turn up to further enhance my history of this tragic and broker character.Redemption is indeed possible. That is is if one is aware on how to tread the road for it and if one is brave enough to get on it. less
