review 1: Frankly, while reading a Christmas story, I like to be a little more uplifted. It's a hard enough season without submitting myself to an entirely depressing story. I do get the idea that through all the grief and tragedy this father feels he finds the goodness in his heart to bestow kindness on others. It is just too bad that it takes our own grief to make us realize there are so many others out there in need of a bit of happiness in their lives too. Maybe this book should be used as a good social commentary on just how we live our lives with blinders on until life rips them off.
review 2: A feel good book for the Christmas season. Didn't know it was based on a true story until the end and that was just laniappe. I read mystery, suspense thrillers, some gore, s... moreome horror all year long. This book reminded me there's always some way to help others less fortunate than I am.My 17 year old grand daughter always gives to those guys on the side of the road and the bell ringers in front of stores. It's not about what they do with the money, but about what it does for her spirit..A very short read. less
