review 1: Suggested grade L-B2It's Zimbabwe 1983 and the beginning of a new era. Robert Mugabe has been in power for three years and the country is apparently stable. Robert Jacklin has newly arrived from England with his family to start a new life in this new country. He wants to go back to England, but instead is starting at a new boarding school that now opens its doors to black and white pupils. While the government may approve of this new equality, not all the pupils are so convinced. Ivan is the school bully and determined to return to the old order when whites ruled. Robert needs to watch out because Ivan has set his sights on him and only trouble can come from that ...This is a brutal story of boarding school life where the bullies in particular become unspeakably violent. T... morehere is a lot of bad language and crude sexual references. While this book is marketed as a teen read (14+ years) I felt that the lack of moral compass to guide the reader meant that it was a bit too easy to get lost in the morality of events.
review 2: In the book of Out of Shadows by Jason Wallace. This book sparked my interest and it made me want to keep reading the book. There are a few reasons why it made want to keep reading. What made me want to read the book was how the book was being displayed at the library. Anther thing about how it was being displayed and brought to my attention was the front cover, the title of the book, and the picture of the front page. The story of "Out of Shadows" is about a twelve-year-old boy named Robert Jacklin where he comes face-to-face with bigotry, racism, and brutality when he is uprooted from England and moves to Zimbabwe with his family. Robert's father accepts a job at the British Embassy in Zimbabwe, and Robert is enrolled in one of the country's most elite boys' boarding schools. Newly enrolled at the school is a microcosm of the horrible problems faced by the struggling new country in the wake of a bloody civil war. The white boys want their old country back which makes it more difficult since they are tormenting the black Africans and wreak havoc among themselves. I really liked this book and I TOTAllY RECOMMEND IT!!!!!! less

Great book, but the Kindle version is particularly missing spaces, which is rather annoying!
